Customs Valuation Masterclass
Course Overview
This focused one-day masterclass provides an in-depth understanding of customs valuation principles as applied under the WTO Valuation Agreement and implemented by SARS. Accurate customs valuation is critical as it directly determines the duty and VAT payable on imported goods.
Participants will work through each of the six valuation methods, understand when to apply each one, and learn how SARS audits valuation declarations. Special attention is given to transaction value adjustments including royalties, licence fees, assists, commissions, and the impact of transfer pricing on customs valuation.
The course includes practical exercises using real import data from African trade corridors and addresses common valuation pitfalls that lead to costly penalties and delayed clearances at South African ports of entry.
